The city commission signed an order this week for P-T Air Services of Hays to blanket the city with a thorough spraying to kill flies, mosquitoes, grasshoppers, and other insects.

Local insurance agent Bill Ward is pictured as he purchases one of the first boxes of popcorn sold by Everett Burkhead from a stand on 3rd St. just south of Farmers and Drovers National Bank.

Salina Brewers won top honors in the district semi-pro baseball tournament that concluded here Wednesday evening. The Brewers defeated the Marion Merchants, who had beaten them the night before.

Individual honors for the tournament went to Marion players Olin Nincehelser, catcher; Herb Winter and E.M. Ireland, pitchers; Keith Mueller, first baseman; and Arnold Schwemmer, third baseman.

The swimming program Romp Period at Marion Country Club’s pool will consist of five classes of 4- to 9-year-olds. Instructor Pat Brose says the young Rompers are progressing nicely, and many already can already dog paddle. Lifeguards watching that the youngsters don’t wander into deep water are Jeaneen Brose, Anne and Tim Burkholder, Jan Crandall, Doris Meredith, and Bob Reinke.
