The victorious Marion High School gridiron 11 met and defeated Council Grove to cinch first place Friday evening in the Cottonwood Valley League.
At worst, the Warriors will be in a three-way tie with Peabody and Council Grove. If they defeat Peabody in the annual Turkey Day game, they will hold the title by themselves.
Paul Meier, pastor of the newly organized St. Mark’s parish of 60 Catholic families, has announced work is progressing rapidly in razing the parish’s old church building and building a new one at Cedar and Sherman Sts. in Marion.
Pistol teams of Marion County police officers came away with most of the honors Tuesday at a competition in Wichita.
First-team members Jim Kline, Fred Michaels, Leo Regier, and Louis Van Horne took first place, and second-team members George Baxter, Vic Herbel, Henry Loveless, and Roy Wait took fourth.
Marion Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a banquet in the near future for the undefeated Marion Junior High School football team. The team won all six of its games this season and earned the respect of their opponents for good, clean play.
The team includes Edward Davies, Joe Dvorak, Laurence Griggs, Bob and Gale Hiebert, Dick Hoch, Keith Hyde, Sam Jewett, Dwight Kruse, Leon Lais, Verlin Meier, Robert Meisinger, David Montgomery, Jerry Richards, Paul Roberts, Jerry Seifert, Gerald Stage, Archie Stenzel, John Waner, John Williams, Bruce Wingerd, and Donald Winters.
