Coming away with three medals, six new personal bests, and four season bests, Marion cross-country runners performed admirably in a 52-team race at Hesston on Thursday that included 1A - 6A schools.
“I am a very happy coach,” coach Rebecca Hofer said. “Everyone had a great competition. There were hundreds of runners and tons of fans.”
At Hesston, races were organized by grade level.
For the girls, McKensee Remmers finished a 4K junior race in 5th place, setting a new personal best with a time of 16 minutes and 23 seconds.
Meggan Freese placed 9th among freshman runners also setting a personal best at 18:10, and sophomore Emily Hague came in 12th place setting a personal best at 17:50.
All placing in the mid-’30s of their age groups, Kaitlyn Goebel, Sam Fugitt, and Rune Hagemeister also set personal bests with race times over 23 minutes.
“Sam improved by 4 minutes and 27 seconds,” Hofer said.
Shyla Harris and Brittan Hett logged seasonal bests with times at 23:38 and 24:29 and placed 43rd and 45th respectively.
Senior Quinton Hett and sophomore Taylor Fahey both placed 29th in their age groups and were the only boys to run for Marion in a 5K race.
Hofer said both boys achieved seasonal bests at the meet. Hett logged a time of 21:38 finishing ahead of Fahey who finished at 21:54.
Marion’s next run is Thursday at Herington.
