Marion High School debate team had a good day this past week at Halstead. As a team, the Warriors placed third.

E.J. Obermeyer and Niklas Bronnert placed second by defeating competitors from Sterling, Buhler, and Nickerson.

Beth Nesser and Taylor Harms defeated Hoisington, while Andy Shipman and Brandon Meierhoff knocked off Kingman.

Obermeyer, Bronnert, Nesser, and Shipman at some point, all were rated the number one speaker in a round, with Obemeryer honored twice.

Levi Anderson and Chris Guetersloh assisted as judges and Cody DiLoreto served as timekeeper.

MHS coach Mary Griffith was pleased with the team.

“We are proud that our debaters can win and medal as (two-person teams), but it is a challenge to place as a squad,” Griffith said. “By placing third, the debaters proved their goals and high standards can be achieved.”
