MHS grad receives military award

Army Sgt. 1st Class Daniel A. King has been decorated with the Meritorious Service Medal.

The medal is awarded to members of the armed forces who distinguish themselves by either outstanding achievement or meritorious service to the United States in noncombat situations.

King is a 2001 graduate of Marion High School. He is a drill sergeant with the F Battery, 1st Battalion, 19th Field Artillery, Fort Sill, Okla. He has served nine years in the military.

Cathy M. Funk of Autumn Ridge, Newton, is his mother.
