Marion High School graduate Shannon Stewart Wedel, art teacher at Lincoln Elementary School in Great Bend, has been named outstanding elementary art educator of the year for 2012-13 by the Kansas Art Education Association. The association will present the award at its fall conference Oct. 27 in Wichita.

In 17 years of teaching, Wedel has been a mentor for new teachers in the Great Bend school district and organized the 2007 KAEA annual conference. She has also presented workshops to fellow art educators at state and national conferences.

Hillsboro High School graduate Darcy Wedel is her husband.
