MHS places at FFA conference

Officers for the Marion/Florence FFA chapter participated in the South Central District FFA Leadership Conference Nov. 11 at Centre High School.

The conference included three competitions in parliamentary procedure, FFA information, and ritual.

Marion placed fourth in parliamentary procedure, second in FFA information, and 14th in ritual competitions.

Adam Cope placed first individually in FFA information and Mitch Ragland was 9th.

The chapter placed sixth out of 24 teams overall at the conference in South Central District.

Students competing in the parliamentary procedure contest were required to take a test about parliamentary procedure and then perform a 10-minute demonstration of 10 parliamentary motions. The demonstration had to reflect a meeting in progress and participants were told which motions they had to demonstrate and their topic one minute before the demonstration.

The FFA information contest included a 100-question test about the FFA organization, officers, history, official functions, and current programs and awards.

Students in the ritual contest were required to perform an opening ceremony used at FFA meetings and official functions.

Students competing for Marion included Cope, Ragland, Shayla Rahe, Jessie Taylor, Jacob Cope, and Derrick Dvorak.

The Marion/Florence FFA greenhand officer team tied for third in greenhand parliamentary procedure at the conference.

Members competing on the greenhand team for Marion included Kaitlyn Frese, Zac Lewman, Alicia Maloney, Caitlyn Maloney, Nicholas Meyer, and Amanda Stuchlik.

Two members of the Marion/Florence FFA Chapter also competed in the FFA creed speaking career development Event. Caitlyn Maloney made the finals and placed fourth overall while Nicholas Meyer placed eighth individually in creed speaking.
