MHS track takes second at Beloit meet

Shields, Thierolf win first in Hillsboro April 26

The Marion High School boys track and field team finished second Friday at the Beloit Relays.

The team earned multiple placements in the pole vault and javelin. Dillon Richmond won the pole vault with a jump of 12 feet, 6 inches; Randy Regnier placed second with a jump of 12-6; and Zach Hammond placed fourth with a jump of 12-0. Regnier and Hammond set personal bests in the pole vault.

“It’s great to get 22 points out of one event,” coach Grant Thierolf said.

Connor Thierolf placed second in the javelin with a throw of 157-0. Teammate Colten Johnson placed third with a throw of 150-9.

Thierolf also placed sixth in the shot put with a personal best throw of 44-9, and sixth in discus, 121-10.

“Connor had a very good day throwing,” coach Grant Thierolf said. “All three throws were solid and it was probably his best overall day as a track and field athlete.”

Johnson placed second in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 16.04 seconds. He was also part of the fifth-place 4x100 relay team with Mikael Antoszyk, Jordan Versch, and Brody Carroll, 46.56, and third-place 4x400 relay with James Jones, Richmond, and Patrick McCarty, 3:40.02.

McCarty also finished second in the 400 with a personal best time of 52.02 and sixth in the triple jump, 39-4.5.

“He gives us some speed on the track that we have not had in awhile,” coach Thierolf said of McCarty.

Carroll placed sixth in the 300 hurdles with a personal best time of 44.22.

Jones placed sixth in the long jump with a personal best distance of 19-3.75.

Jordan Hett placed third in the 3200, 10:27.8, and fourth in the 1600, 4:55.4.

Other personal bests included Jones in the triple jump, 39-4; Versch in the 100, 11.99; Michael Kirkpatrick in the 800, 2:21; Clark Kroupa in the 800, 2:24; Jacob Cope in the 3200, 11:11; and Nick Meyer in discus, 116-11.

Four female Warriors also placed. Corey Shields won the shot put with a throw of 34-3.75 and placed fourth in the discus 92-6.

“Corey dominated the shot put field, winning by over two feet,” coach Thierolf said. “She just needs to keep focused and she will have a great chance at league and regional meets.”

Whitney Gordon placed second in the high jump with a leap of 5-0. She also placed sixth in 100 hurdles with a personal best time of 17.15.

Kaelyn Thierolf placed second in the 3200 with a personal best time of 12:27.8, and third in the 1600, 5:51.4.

Alicia Maloney finished sixth in the pole vault with a personal best jump of 8-6.

Other personal bests included Katie Ehrlich in the triple jump, 31-3.25, and Kadecha Gueary in the 200, 33.33.

Hillsboro meet

The Marion High School track team earned 12 placing finishes April 26 at the Hillsboro Central Kansas Track League meet.

Thrower Shields won the shot put with a throw of 31 feet, 2 inches, and the discus at 91-8. She also placed third in the javelin, 89-10.

Connor Thierolf won the javelin, 152-4, and placed third in the shot put, 43-5.5.

Dakin Ledford placed third in the javelin with a throw of 145-7 and fourth in the discus, 112-4.

Eric Regnier placed fourth in the pole vault at 9-0, and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.94 seconds.

The 4x400 relay team of Drew Knolla, Joey Anderson, Justin Barr, and Lance Knolla placed fourth, 53.76.

Nick Meyer placed fifth in the discus, 109-9.
