MHS volleyball looks to rebound from slow start

Staff writer

The Marion High School Lady Warrior volleyball squad slipped to 0-5 on the season with match losses to three teams on Thursday at the Moundridge quadrangular.

First up for the Lady Warriors was rival Hillsboro, a team in the top-10 preseason rankings for Class 3A, and their most difficult test of the evening.

Hillsboro breezed past Marion in the first game of the match, 25-10. The second game was more competitive, but the Lady Trojans came out on top once again, 25-17.

Marion’s next opponent was Southeast of Saline. The first game of the match found the Lady Warriors rallying to within one point, 18-17, but SES held on for the win, 25-20. The Lady Trojans used a 6-1 mid-game run to pull away from Marion, claiming the match with a 25-18 win.

Moundridge took full advantage of a vocal home court crowd and was never seriously threatened by the Lady Warriors, winning the match in two games, 25-14 and 25-18.

The Berean quadrangular at Berean Academy on Tuesday provided opportunities for Marion to notch a win before playing this Saturday in the Centre Invitational tournament.
