A 76-year-old Marion man who wandered away from his apartment sometime after 9:30 p.m. Monday was found dead Tuesday morning.
Marion police officer Duane McCarty said Derrel Dye, 76, was blind and very hard of hearing.
Last seen about 9:30 p.m. Monday, Dye was to be picked up Tuesday morning for a trip to a hospital. The driver reported Dye missing at 7:30 a.m.
Police searched while city public works employees also kept an eye out for him, McCarty said.
City crews spotted Dye in a defunct creek bed about 10 a.m., McCarty said.
“He had walked north on 1st St. and fallen into a ravine behind a residence at 100 Jefferson,” McCarty said.
