It was a good start to the season Thursday, as both Marion Middle School boys’ basketball teams defeated the Haven Wildcats.
The Marion Wildcat’s A-team jumped ahead 15-4 after the first quarter and never looked back.
MMS led by nine at halftime, and ended the game with a 50-20 victory.
Ethan Hett led the way with 12 points, and Jordan Hett had 11.
Head coach Kelly Robson was pleased with the team’s performance.
“We got the season off to a good start,” he said. “After halftime we turned up the full-court-pressure and really controlled every aspect of the game.”
The B-team struggled with just six points in the opening quarter, but the defense was stout, and Marion led, 6-0.
A 15-point second quarter gave Marion a 21-5 halftime lead. Despite scoring just four in the third quarter, Marion again held Haven scoreless, en route to a 33-7 victory.
Trever Kinnersley was in double-figures with 10 points, and Timothy Knolla chipped in with six.
“They did a nice job of defending all evening,” Robson said.
Both teams are now 1-0 on the season.
