MMS scholars take first in tourney

The Marion Middle School seventh-grade scholars’ bowl team placed first out of eight teams at the MMS invitational March 29.

The Wildcats finished with a 7-0 record by defeating Centre, 30-10; Berean Academy, 60-30; Inman, 60-30; Marion II, 60-10; Hillsboro, 60-30; Canton-Galva, 50-40; and Ell Saline 30-20.

Scoring was led by Austin Molleker with 120 points, followed by Reann Hamm, 110; Emily Schneider, 50; Elizabeth Meyer, 40; and Bailey Robson, 20.

MMS fielded a second seventh-grade team, which finished with a 4-3 record to earn fourth place. The team defeated Inman, 30-20; Ell Saline, 60-30; Centre, 40-30; and Berean Academy, 60-35. The team lost to Hillsboro, 60-10; Marion I, 60-10; and Canton-Galva, 90-0. Remington Putter led the team in scoring with 80 points, followed by Adam Kjellin, 60; Kayle Stapleford, 40; and Alli Boyd, 30. Shyla Harris also was on the team.

The MMS eighth-grade team finished with a 3-4 record, defeating Centre, 40-10; Canton-Galva, 80-0; and Ell Saline, 30-20. The team’s losses were against Berean Academy, 40-30; Inman, 30-25; Goessel, 70-10; and Hillsboro, 50-40. Kaylie Waner led scoring with 120 points, followed by Braden Fahey, 70; Quinton Hett, 55; and Josiah Meador, 10.
