Eighth grade places fourth
Marion Middle School seventh grade scholars’ bowl team posted a 7-1 overall record April 7 at Halstead Middle School to take the MCAA League championship.
In pool play, Marion defeated Hillsboro 80-45, Sterling 65-35, Halstead 60-40, and Lyons 70-25, before losing to Collegiate 60-50.
After defeating Lindsborg, 70-30, in the semifinals, the Wildcats faced Collegiate again in a best-of-three finals.
The Wildcats won, 75-60 and 70-55, to claim first place.
Nick Meyer led Warrior scoring with 280 points followed by Zach Robson 185, Kaelyn Thierolf 40, Alicia Maloney 20, Caitlyn Maloney 15, and Tim Knolla with 10 points.
The Wildcat eighth grade team posted a 5-4 record to take fourth out of 12 teams in their division.
In pool play, MMS defeated Hillsboro, 90-60, Sterling, 65-45, Halstead, 120-40, and Lyons, 70-50, before losing to Collegiate, 60-40.
After falling to Hesston 90-50 in the semifinals the Wildcats faced Reno Valley in the best-of-three consolation round.
There, the team lost 80-60, won 80-45, and lost 40-30 in the deciding round.
Monica Spachek led Warrior scoring with 235 points followed by Isaac Baldwin, 190, Josh Brown, 140, and Elizabeth Goentzel and Jenevieve Corona, 20.
