Mom recalls camera

To the editor:

In reference to the article in last week’s paper of Duane McCarty and his pictures. The pictures he posted are from my pictures, recent ones he has taken, and a few from his grandmother.

I have always kept a camera close, with film in it ready to go, as I always enjoyed taking pictures even if I wasn’t very good at it. My first camera was a box camera I got for my 16th birthday. It took the best pictures with no flash, as there wasn’t any at that time. As long as you had plenty of light, the pictures were clear.

Now for the young, who don’t know what a box camera is, it is a camera that was just a small box. The back opened so you could put the film in or take it out. The front was where the lens was. The switch to open the shutter to take the picture was on the side and there was a handle on the side to carry it.

I think I still have the camera somewhere in storage. I bet if you could get the film for it, it would still take good pictures. The pictures I took with it I lost in the ‘51 flood.

I am glad Duane is enjoying going through all the pictures.
