National Guard band to perform in Marion

The Kansas National Guard’s 35th Infantry Division Band will present a free “Home Front Concert” 7 p.m. June 23 at Marion High School Performing Arts Center.

The band, with roughly 42 musicians, are traveling throughout Kansas to present concerts that include military marches, vocal music, patriotic tunes and big band selections along with popular rock.

Each concert also features a special salute to veterans and their families.

Chris Barlow, band director at Marion High School, will be host for the concert in Marion.

“They were looking for places to perform,” Barlow said. “I said, ‘Marion is a great place, they have a great performing arts center.’” Barlow will be guest conductor.

He served with the National Guard band from October 2005 to April 2007 and now serves with Bravo Battery 1/161 FA out of Abilene.

More information is available from Chief Warrant Officer 4 Steve Patterson, (785) 640-2326 or from Sergeant 1st Class Nathan Fabrizius, (913) 782-4522.
