Neighborhood heroes

According to Marion County Sheriff Deputy Duane McCarty, there are honest people in Marion County and he met two of them this weekend.

A rural Marion couple found a purse on U.S. 56, east of Hillsboro. The couple contacted the sheriff’s department and McCarty responded. There was a large amount of money, credit cards, a cell phone, and other personal items in the purse.

The couple speculated that a car had slid on the shoulder of the highway after Friday night’s snowstorm. When the female driver got out of the car to check damages, the purse fell out of the car and onto the highway. The driver was unaware of the loss and drove away.

Deputy McCarty contacted the mother of the purse owner so it could be returned.

“Thanks to honest people in our county, a young college girl will get back her purse and all of the items in it,” McCarty said.

These neighborhood heroes were Gary and Gerry Grentz.
