New eatery to open in Hillsboro

Staff writer

There will be a new restaurant open on Main St. in Hillsboro, but owner Erik Torres is keeping mum on its name for now.

“The name is going to be a surprise,” he said, adding he might pick “something Mexican.”

Torres will open the eatery in a space formerly occupied by El Lorito Mexican Restaurant.

El Lorito was owned by the Sosme family, who moved the business to Walton and merged it with Los Pericos.

The Sosme’s new café, named Los Pericos, opened Saturday in the old Whistle Stop Café at 106 Main St., said Guadalupe Sosme.

Many of the Sosme’s longtime customers have found their new location, she said.

“It’s good to see familiar faces,” she said. “Quite a few followed us over, so it’s been good.”

Torres plans to freshen up the former El Lorito’s interior with new paint, flooring and kitchen appliances.

He plans to have work finished and the restaurant open in about two weeks, offering Mexican favorites from El Lorito, with a few new dishes of their own.
