New guide for seniors available

Staff writer

After two years of collecting information on her own, Marion County’s aging coordinator, Gayla Ratzlaff, will be publishing a new resource guide on services offered to seniors.

Ratzlaff initially published a guide 12 years ago, two years into her job with the Department on Aging. It included contacts for businesses and organizations that could provide transportation, food, shelter, medical help, and information for seniors.

“I always meant to redo it,” she said.

The new guide will have updated contacts as well as Ratzlaff’s advice for caregivers and relatives.

“It has a couple of pages about care giving, tips on how to make your loved one feel more comfortable, and questions you could ask somebody if you were going to hire them to be a caregiver,” Ratzlaff said. “It’s multiple things that deal with issues seniors have.”

Two hundred copies will be printed by Baker Brothers in Hillsboro and distributed to agencies in the county to use with clients. A digital version will be available through the county’s website.
