New holiday may delay next week’s paper
The new Juneteenth federal holiday may result in delays in receiving next week’s paper by mail.
As usual, the paper will be mailed at multiple post offices and available for pickup and on newsstands next Wednesday afternoon.
However, next Thursday will be a holiday, so postal workers may not deliver the paper until Friday or later. Many banks and government offices also are likely to be closed.
Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when slaves liberated by Union soldiers in Texas were told, years after the Emancipation Proclamation, that they had been freed.
