New Marion City Clerk takes office

Marty Grill began his duties Monday as Marion City Clerk.

The Turon native has an accounting and finance background, and most recently was self-employed as an accountant and substitute teacher.

Grill earned an associate of arts degree in accounting from Pratt Community College and a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting from Wichita State University.

Previously he was a state auditor, worked with finances of health-related businesses, and was controller at Pratt Community College.

Moving from Buehler, Grill and his wife, Julie, are comfortable in a community the size of Marion and are looking forward to raising their two children — Hannah, 4, and Paul, 3 — in Marion.

Besides enjoying working with numbers, Grill said he is looking forward to the human aspect of the job.

“I love working with people,” Grill said.

He said he learned at an early age about how to work with people when his mother had a home office.

“I saw first-hand the importance of customer service,” he said.

The family has relocated to Marion and Julie is seeking employment in the area. Currently she is a secretary with the Reno County attorney.

“Everyone has made us feel welcome,” Grill said, “the council, mayor, and my co-workers.

“This is a pretty area and so close to the reservoir. We like living here. I’m here for the long haul,” he said.

Grill replaces Alan Meisinger who was hired May 10 and was terminated Aug. 25 as city clerk. Meisinger was hired after Angela Lange resigned from the position.
