New station moves closer for Hillsboro

Staff writer

A new ambulance station at Hillsboro is closer to being built.

County commissioners Monday heard from emergency medical services director Travis Parmley and Hillsboro city administrator Matt Stiles that Hillsboro has done a site survey of the proposed new EMS building in Hillsboro.

The station is to be located near Hillsboro’s police department and also near a planned new fire station.

“We’re taking an opportunity to survey the property,” Stiles said. “That property is one giant parcel, so we’ll have to do a lot of work on it.”

Stiles said the city will begin the platting process.

Stiles said that when the city talked to its engineer, shared access to the buildings from the street was planned.

“I want to preserve your ability to get access to your building,” Stiles said.

Contractor Cody Nelson, owner of Nelson-Fowles Construction, presented a drawing of the proposed 150-foot by 110-foot building that would face N. Ash St.

Nelson estimated work would take three months after breaking ground.

Parmley said he has $200,000 in his budget to put toward the building.

Commissioners would finance the rest of the cost.
