HILLSBORO
Rape
A 17-year-old Lehigh girl reported being raped by a friend at 8:30 p.m. Feb. 28 in a parking lot at Hillsboro Middle and High School.
The girl, who suffered what were described as minor injuries, was taken by Hillsboro ambulance from a farmhouse near Lehigh to Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita.
According to a report by Hillsboro assistant police chief Randal Brazil, alcohol was not involved in the incident, which occurred shortly after a girls basketball game.
After searching in Marion and Florence, police said last week that a juvenile suspect had not yet been arrested. Arrests of juveniles are not a matter of public record.
Burglary, theft, possession of stolen property, criminal damage
A total of 53 items, together valued at $6,984, were discovered at 6:13 a.m. March 1 to have been stolen from AgPower / Carquest Auto Parts, 603 Orchard Dr.
Hillsboro officer Peyton Heidebrecht reported finding no sign of forced entry to the store and no indication weapons were used.
Among the items stolen were 17 chain saws, five chain saw blades, two chain saw bars, a chain saw file, and chain saw parts.
Other power tools stolen included a pole saw, a concrete saw, a weed trimmer, a leaf blower, a tire bead seater and inflator, a fluid evacuator, and an automotive test kit.
Also stolen were a welder, two welding carts, a welding helmet, an acetylene regulator, and an acetylene bottle.
Other stolen items included a work light and battery, three battery chargers and another battery, four jack stands, two impact sockets, a socket set, a torque wrench, an adjustable wrench, a belt tensioner, a punch and chisel set, three sets of blades for a riding mower, and motor oil.
Justin Winter, 37, Pratt, was arrested in connection with the incident after a chase that ended later in the day southwest of Peabody in Harvey County.
Most of the stolen items were reported to have been recovered from a stolen pickup and trailer seized after the chase.
Possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia
A tenth of a gram of methamphetamine and six lighters were seized after a traffic stop at 4 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of S. Adams St., a block east of Hillsboro Middle and High School.
The vehicle was searched after a drug-sniffing dog from Marion police was called.
Kimberly Vanderzanden, 21, Elmdale, who attended school in Marion, was arrested by Hillsboro officer John Huebert on suspicion of possessing drugs and drug paraphernalia. She was released the next day on $5,000 surety bond.
Tickets also were issued to one or more unnamed people for allegedly possessing marijuana and driving with no brake lights.
A tenth of a gram of meth is less than what typically constitutes a single “hit” and has a street value of less than $5, according to federal drug enforcement authorities.
