MARION

Drunken driving, drug possession

A smoking pipe, a grinder, and 0.7 of a gram of vegetation suspected of being marijuana — about enough for two “joints” — were seized during a traffic stop at 11:57 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of E. Santa Fe St.

After stopping the vehicle for allegedly failing to use a turn signal, officer Aaron Slater administered a field sobriety test and reportedly observed the pipe in plain view.

According to monitored radio transmissions, deputy Joel Womochil had spotted the vehicle behaving in what he regarded as a suspicious manner near Marion County Park and Lake. He and Slater followed the silver 2012 Chevrolet Cruise to the address of one of its registered owners.

After the Chevy pulled into a driveway there, Slater arrested Leslie O. Riggs, 29, 108 E. Santa Fe St., Marion, on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and failure to give a proper signal.

Riggs was released from jail eight hours later after posting a $2,500 surety bond.

Transmissions indicate the Chevy also is registered to Raquel Welch of Florence.
