These offense reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:
SHERIFF
Burglary
Two Husqvarna mowers, together valued at $1,550, were reported stolen at 3:14 p.m. July 31 from Leonard G. Ellis’s workshop in the 500 block of Barker St. in Florence.
Deputy Jesse Raney found no signs of forced entry.
Criminal damage
Tom W. Britain of rural Florence reported that a sign he had placed near one that the City of Marion pays to illuminate at US-50 and Sunflower Rd. was damaged between 11 a.m. Aug. 5 and 7 a.m. Aug. 7.
Cost of the damage was estimated at $300.
Britain previously reported similar damage to a sign at the same location. It criticized Sunflower Wind Farm and Marion County as “Eyesore of the Flint Hills.”
HILLSBORO
Identity theft
A caller attempted to con a 35-year-old Hillsboro resident Aug. 5 by telling her she had an hour pay $1,542.12 or $1,000 would be added to the balance due because of a failed attempted at serving a court summons.
The woman, who lives in the 700 block of S. Washington St., called a California telephone number that the original caller, who had a Kansas area code, told her to call.
She apparently did not pay any money but was asked during the California call to verify her Social Security number, which the con artist already possessed.
An offense report states he also obtained her address and date of birth.
She was advised to monitor her credit reports and check with the Internal Revenue Service about reporting the incident.
The victim’s name was provided in official, public reports but is being withheld by the newspaper.
Theft
A telephone charger valued at $30 was reported stolen at 4:47 p.m. Aug. 5 from TCW Solutions Center, 323 N. Ash St.
According to monitored transmissions, the charger was recovered the next day when Hillsboro officer Randy Brazil visited a rental home in the 300 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion.
An offense report gave no indication whether charges against a woman at that residence would be sought.
