No further information and no explanation for the delay in reporting were released.
HILLSBORO
Theft, special circumstances
Shoplifters stole nine items, mainly tools and batteries, together valued at $2,783, from two Hillsboro businesses last week, but it took a tip from a Greenwood County sheriff’s deputy before some of the thefts were recognized.
A pair of Bluetooth earbuds, four 6-amp-hour battery packs, and a two-pack of 5-amp-hour battery packs were reported stolen between 3:37 and 3:44 p.m. Sept. 23 from Hillsboro Hardware.
An online posting about the theft was noticed by a Greenwood County sheriff’s deputy, who had two people matching the suspects’ description in custody on suspicion of committing a similar crime there.
Subsequent investigation led to discovery of two other thefts they were suspected of committing in Hillsboro before the thefts from Hillsboro Hardware. Two oil-resistant tool batteries reportedly were stolen from Bomgaars at 5:47 p.m. Sept. 22, and a reciprocating saw reportedly was stolen, also from Bomgaars, at 3:33 p.m. Sept. 23, minutes before the Hillsboro Hardware theft.
Hillsboro police are now asking the county attorney to file theft charges against Leigh A. Moore, 38, Augusta, and Michael A. Graham, 51, El Dorado.
Police are seeking three counts of theft and three counts of a special category of theft that involves thefts occurring at three or more locations within three days.
In Greenwood County, theft and conspiracy charges formally were filed Monday alleging that Moore and Graham collaborated to steal $1,049.95 worth of hand tool batteries Aug. 25 from Home Lumber and Supply in Eureka. She allegedly shoplifted the batteries while he allegedly distracted employees, according to court documents.
