These offense reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

Child abuse, battery

A child between 6 and 18 years old suffered apparent minor injuries when tortured or cruelly beaten, struck, or kicked during an argument between 3 and 3:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at a home near 350th and Bison Rds., according to the lone offense report released Friday by the sheriff’s office.

The child’s father, Bryan L. Thomas, 48, was booked into Marion County Jail and released 20½ hours later without bond.

HILLSBORO

Possession of stimulants and drug paraphernalia

Five syringes and a trace amount of methamphetamine were discovered after a traffic stop at 8:32 p.m. Aug. 26 on US-56 near Goldenrod Rd.

Police stopped the vehicle for not using headlights. A drug-sniffing police dog from Marion was called in. After the dog indicated the possibility of drugs in the vehicle, it was searched.

Jessica K. Clark, 29, Hays, was arrested on suspicion of possessing stimulants and drug paraphernalia. Jail records indicate she also was accused of criminal restraint, domestic battery, and reckless driving, but these allegations were not included in an official offense report issued in the case and may have been from outstanding warrants from a previous incident.

She was released from jail 22 hours later after posting $15,000 in bonds.

Possession of stolen property

A stolen 2018 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle valued at $4,000 was recovered at 6 p.m. Thursday outside Country Haven Inn after police noticed it had no license plate and checked its vehicle identification number.

Owner Tyler S. Buchanan of Joplin, Missouri, had reported the motorcycle stolen Sept. 26, 2025.

Police say a suspect has been identified but the investigation is continuing.

Aggravated domestic battery

Blake A. Newsome, 25, Hillsboro, was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery after allegedly choking his common-law spouse during a quarrel at 7:30 a.m. Friday in the 200 block of E. Grand Ave.

Police were alerted at 10:50 a.m. Medical personnel were called at 11:09 a.m. to check the victim at Hillsboro Elementary School. She declined to be taken to a hospital but suffered apparent minor injuries, according to an offense report.

Newsome was released 29 hours later after posting a $7,500 bond.
