Old reliable combine gets the job done
The 1660 Case International combine Laverne Bina uses to harvest his crops was manufactured in the 1990s and doesn’t have a lot of the modern technology, but it still gets the job done, and it’s debt-free.
Bina was combining his last field of corn Thursday northeast of Marion.
Bina has been farming ever since he graduated from Centre High School in 1960.
He harvested 200 acres of corn this fall that yielded 85 to 105 bushels per acre.
“It looked better, but thin spots where the corn was flooded reduced the yield,” he said.
Bina was getting ready Tuesday to begin sowing wheat. He said the ground was dry and could use more rain.
The forecast for rain Tuesday night was 100 percent, continuing into today.
