One sent to hospital following accident

An accident last week ended with Cassandra L. Hinerman, 33, Wellington, being taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital for soreness when she dove into a semi at US-56 and K-15 North.

The situation was more fortunate than it could have been, Sheriff Rob Craft said.

“It absolutely could have been worse,” he said. “They were extremely blessed.”

Joseph B. Coe, 49, Kansas City, Missouri, reported at 6:16 a.m. Jan. 23 that a car crashed into his semi trailer.

“He wasn’t even sure what the vehicle looked like that hit him,” said a Marion County dispatcher according to scanner reports. “I think it’s all in the roadway.”

Hinerman, driving a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu, failed to stop at a stop sign, resulting in the accident, according to accident reports.

By 6:24 a.m., crews had one lane closed to traffic.

Her 2018 Chevrolet Malibu had to be towed, while the semi, owned by Material Transport of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, was driven away by Coe.

Emergency response included sheriff’s deputies, and Hillsboro Fire Department, ambulance, and police department. LifeSave was called, but the request was retracted.
