Zach Hudlin, interim Marion police chief for nearly two years after former Gideon Cody resigned after a raid on the Marion County Record, has resigned.
Hudlin’s final day will be Sept. 12.
He was passed over for the police chief Aug. 4 when city council members named canine officer Aaron Slater as chief at $65,000 a year. Slater immediately took over as chief.
Slater told city council members Tuesday that Jesse Raney, a deputy sheriff, would join the department Sept. 22.
With Hudlin’s resignation and Raney’s arrival, the department still will be seeking one more office.
“Hopefully, getting that filled within a few months if not sooner,” Slater said.
Hudlin did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday.
In other business Tuesday, the owner of Walton State Bank, received a delay until Nov. 3 to deal with a crumbling downtown building at 202 E. Main St.,
The bank has a buyer for the property, purchased at a tax foreclosure sale in 2015, but needs to quiet the title.
