For the past few years parishioners of Marion Presbyterian Church have brought food to church once a month in a special donation called “Shared Sunday” to Marion County Emergency Food Bank.
Pastor Jeremiah Lange said the event stocks the food bank for at least one week a month, but more is needed.
He is asking other local churches to help stock the food bank for the rest of the weeks.
“Our goal is that the churches can rotate the Sundays and that would fully stock the food bank on a regular basis,” he said.
Lange took his campaign to social media, but said he has received a limited response. He hopes other churches will see this as a worthwhile cause because the food bank serves so many local residents.
“Funding the food bank is critical all year round because there is such a need from all over the county and that number seems to be going up,” he said.
Food items and cash are donated, then the following Monday volunteers Jackie Volbrecht and Gerry Henderson buy needed items like milk and eggs and unload all the food.
