Paulette Grace Loewen Zook, 64, passed away, with her family at her side, Aug. 9, 2014, at Asbury Park, Newton.
She was born Dec. 21, 1949, in Hillsboro, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul J. Loewen. In 1962, her family moved to Florence. She graduated from Florence High School in 1967. She was a 1968 Wichita Business College graduate. She then worked for Beltone in Wichita.
On Dec. 18, 1971, she married Ramon Russell Zook at Florence United Methodist Church. They made their home in Florence. One daughter, Rebekah Ruth Zook, was born to this union.
Paulette was first and foremost a mother and wife. She never missed any of Beki’s activities and was a devoted companion to Ramon, as he drove all over the United States making deliveries in his truck.
She gave back to Florence as she spent many years volunteering for the United Methodist Church, Historical Society, Library Board, Labor Day committee, YWCA and Florence High School Alumni Banquet.
She also was a Florence news correspondent for the Peabody Gazette-Bulletin and a part-time nurse for Dr. John Slifer and also sold Avon. Paulette hosted an annual Halloween hot dog roast at her residence since 1972.
Paulette served others by assisting the elderly in the community. She would take them to doctor’s appointments and shopping and would enjoy reminiscing about the good ol’ days in Florence.
She enjoyed traveling with Ramon and meeting new people on every vacation they took. Their favorite places to visit were Branson, San Antonio, Durango and the beaches of Florida.
Paulette was preceded in death by her parents, Paul J. and Darlene G. (Davis) Loewen, and her parents-in-law, Dr. John C. and Eleanor M. (Philo) Slifer.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Ramon R. Zook of Florence; daughter Rebekah R. Zook of Derby; granddog Cooper Maya; sisters Janette M. Parmley (Timothy) of Florence and Mashawn A. Weber (Dale) of Florence; brothers-in-law John C. Slifer III (Sheryl) of Walton and Lindley P. Slifer (Trudy) of Marion; four nieces; seven nephews; and their families.
