Sports editor

With a third-place finish from the boys’ team, and four competitors on the girls’ side Thursday at Peabody-Burns, the Marion High School cross country team brought home four medals.

Sophomore Ryan Jones ran well once again, taking third in the boys’ 5K race with a time of 18 minutes, 51 seconds.

He took second place in his first two matches, and continues to be the leader of the Warrior squad.

Louis Holt and Andy Shipman did their part, earning medals after finishing 11th and 18th respectively.

With top runners Camille Christensen and Amanda Richmond once again out with an injury and illness, the girls were led by Jaclyn DeForest.

The junior ran the 4K race in 18:20, and earned a 16th-place medal.

“Jaclyn did a fine job of leading the girls’ team again this week,” head coach Bethany Carlson said.

Anna Laurin (28th), Jessie Taylor (31st), and Bridget Lundy (36th), rounded out the girls’ squad.

The final four finishers for the boys’ team were Michael Kirkpatrick (25th), Philip Gu (46th), Brandon Meierhoff (48th), and Derek Stuchlik (52).

“Overall, [they] did great,” Carlson said. “As we approach this next week, we hope to be more competitive at our Marion meet.”
