Peabody-Burns’ boys were the lone winners among county teams Friday night, defeating Wakefield 40-26 on the road.

“I had no one to keep the book, but I know Jameson Miles led us in scoring,” coach Bobby Kyle said.

Peabody-Burns entered Centre’s Cougar Classic this week as the No. 5 seed. Play will continue Friday and Saturday after Tuesday night’s games.

Hillsboro

The winless Trojans didn’t catch a break Friday, going up a class against Class 3A Hesston and losing by a lopsided score of 70-27.

Braxton Hiebert led Hillsboro with 11 points. Koehn Janzen scored nine, and Brayson Amstutz scored seven.

“As we approach a very stacked Trojan Classic tournament, we look to continue to battle against high quality teams across the state,” coach Kyle Kroeker said.

Play will continue Friday and Saturday after Tuesday night’s games.

Marion

The Warriors lost 44-34 Friday at Inman.

“The rim seemed to have a lid for us on Friday night,” coach Kevin Dasenbrock said. “The boys played hard and did everything I asked of them, and sometimes the shots don’t fall.”

Carson Krause led the team in scoring with 14 points. Jymer Raymer scored eight, and Jackson Howard scored five.

“We as a program are looking forward to competing in the Centre tournament,” Dasenbrock said. “I am looking forward to seeing some kids step up for us and get better as a team.”

Goessel

Unable to score any field goals in the first quarter, Goessel trailed Canton-Galva at the end of one quarter 26-3.

Brayton Base scored all seven of Goessel’s points in the second quarter, but the Bluebirds fell behind 48-10 at halftime.

With a running clock the whole second half, Goessel lost by a final score of 65-17.

Canton-Galva connected on nine three-pointers during the game.

Base had a season high 11 points to lead the Bluebirds. Goessel, 1-3 in the Wheat State League and 1-8 overall, will compete at Centre this week in the Cougar Classic.

Centre

The Cougars lost 61-19 on the road Friday night against Elyria Christian.

Centre is listed as the No. 3 seed in its tournament this week.
