Eric Dutton has been Peabody-Burns assistant coach for the last five years. This year, he is stepping up to the head coach position.

Returning to the team along with coach Dutton are starters Chris Spencer, Cade Gossen, and Joseph Aydelott.

“This will be a rebuilding year,” Dutton said.“We will have a lot of freshman starting. They are a very talented group, and I still expect good things from them.”

Peabody-Burns finished the season last year 6-4 and was knocked out of the postseason in the second round by Tescott.

Unable to get its revenge, Peabody-Burns opened this year’s season with a 45-26 loss Friday on the road against Tescott.

The Warriors will be at home Friday as they will be hosts to Chetopa.

Previously a middle school coach for the last three years, Clarissa Dutton begins her first year as varsity head coach.

Top returning starters for Dutton’s team are Maddy Blythe, Ariana Wilson, Hailey Hamm, and Chloe Callahan.

“It’s going to be a growing and building year for us,” Dutton said. “We’re going to be a young team who hasn’t spent a lot of time on the court together so it’s going to take us a bit to find our groove.”

The goal for the season is to identify strengths and minimize weaknesses and to use those as a foundation for building a solid team.

Peabody-Burns was host for an invitational tournament Aug. 26 but fell to all four opponents the Warriors played.

The Warriors will look to bounce back at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Solomon Invitational.
