Peabody Hub gets surprise gift

News editor

Three people and one business have a little more cash in their pockets, thanks to the Peabody Holiday Shopping Spree.

Peabody residents Tricia Oursler took home the big bucks — $500 — and Terry and Melissa Johnson received $100. The $250 award was a surprise.

A community benefactor entered their tickets in the name of The Hub, a youth center in downtown Peabody.

“Someone did their shopping and then turned in their tickets in The Hub’s name,” Peabody Main Street Association board of directors member Susan Marshall said.

“Thank you to the person who entered the tickets in The Hub’s name,” Hub board of directors member Doe Ann Hague said. “We are super grateful, it’s a huge blessing for The Hub.”

Hague said the board will meet after the holidays to decide how the gift will be used.

The event was sponsored by Peabody Main Street Association. Tickets were available at 20 participating businesses.

For each $10 purchase, a participants’ ticket was stamped or punched. Once a ticket was complete, it was eligible for entry.

For those not getting the five required stamps, a loser’s bracket drawing for $70 in Peabody bucks will have been chosen Dec. 28.
