Peabody tweaks rules

Online video was not working correctly at the Peabody City Council meeting Monday evening, but those attending still managed to get work done.

Peabody formally adopted a code of procedure for future city meetings.

There was already a list of “council meeting procedures” at the back of agenda packets distributed at council meetings, but the procedures were not official until now.

The packet tells residents, among other things, to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance, be courteous and respectful to public officials at all times, and “the council will not act on or discuss the topics raised] during the public comment forum.”

At the request of councilman Tom Spencer, the rule that the council would not discuss topics raised in public comment was struck from the code.

However, the council still will not act on any topic raised.

In other business, the council moved to purchase stickers to place over fading stop signs at 3rd and Olive Sts. The city will pay $100 plus shipping for one pack of five stickers.
