Peabody wins rematch

Staff writer

Peabody-Burns evened its season series with Centre Friday, defeating the Cougars 60-52 at the Warriors’ homecoming game.

Centre, which had defeated the Warriors earlier in the season, led 13-9 near the end of the first quarter, but a three-pointer by Peabody’s Philip Young narrowed the gap to one.

With 3:41 left in the second quarter, the teams were tied at 16, but by the end of the quarter, Peabody led 24-18.

The Cougars came within two points early in the third quarter on a steal and basket by Tanner Stuchlik and two free throws by Gentri Holub. After that, the Warriors reigned, building a 15-point lead near the end of the game.

A basket by Mikey Silhan on a steal, three consecutive steals by Centre’s Luke Hudson, five free throws, a field goal, and a three-pointer narrowed the losing margin to eight.

Peabody had three players in double digits: Young with 22; Jake Partridge, 12; and Thomas Smith, 11.

Although Centre’s Hudson missed many shots and created numerous turnovers, he led Centre with 17 points, 11 steals, and 12 rebounds. Silhan scored 15 points.

Centre defeated Fairfield on the road Monday in overtime, 67-65.
