Peggy Tajchman
Peggy Ann Tillotson Tajchman was born March 13, 1936, in Leon, Iowa. She died February 20, 2009 in Garland, Texas.
Her parents were Ray and Amy Tillotson, both of whom preceded her in death.
She is survived by husband Ed; three sons, Ron and wife Nancy of Garland, Tim and wife Clare of Seattle, Wash., and Gary and wife Amy and their two children, Maya and Jacob, of Mansfield, Mass.; and daughter Margi of Garland. Two brothers and a sister also survive her as well as nine nieces and nephews.
Peggy graduated from Kansas State University in January 1958, and taught Childhood Development at Kearney State College in Nebraska in 1959. The Tajchmans lived in Denver, Colo., for the early years of their marriage where Peggy served as a Docent in the Native American section of the Denver Art Museum. She had a life-long appreciation for the Native American culture.
The family moved to Garland from Denver in 1986 where Peggy became an accredited Montessori director and worked with children until 1992. Peggy and Ed celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in September 2008.
Peggy grew up on the farm her grandfather homesteaded near Shields, and loved roaming the canyons there. She enjoyed the outdoors and all of nature and served a term as president of the Spring Creek Forest Preservation Society. She also belonged to the Dallas Area Fiber Artists and was an amateur artist, creative writer, and an avid reader with an inquisitive mind and often recommended books to family and friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday, Feb. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Eastgate Funeral Home, Garland.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Richardson, Texas. Memorial Contributions may be made to Preservation Society of Spring Creek, PO Box 450176, Garland TX 75045-0176.
