During a special work session April 25, the Centre Board of Education accepted the resignations of Lynley Remy as vocal and instrumental music instructor and Tyler Weinbrenner as physical education instructor and thanked them for their years of dedicated service to the district.
After 30 minutes in executive session to discuss non-elected personnel, the board voted to reassign Kelly Steiner as the physical education instructor for the 2012-13 school year.
The board moved on to employ Bethany Lewis as the vocal and instrumental music instructor for the next school year. She is a graduate of Riley County High School and Kansas State University. She resides in Junction City.
Jacqueline Gregory was hired as a junior high and high school English instructor, subject to her obtaining Kansas certification. She currently has a Nebraska license and is a substitute teacher in Nebraska.
Superintendent/K-12 Principal Jerri Kemble’s contract was extended through June 30, 2014.
Technology
Technology technician Dani Litke presented an update on requested technology purchases. The board approved the purchase of 10 Mac Book Air laptops for the junior high cart; 30 iPad 2s and a mobile cart for grades five and six, and ethernet adapters for the technology department, for a cost of $28,605.
Construction and maintenance
A quote of $11,500 was accepted from Kurt Kemble Construction, Herington, for plan development, materials, and labor for renovation of the commons concession area. The renovation is necessary in order to implement Centre Perk, the Vocational Pathways entrepreneurship business approved earlier. Quotes will be taken for electrical and plumbing work for the project.
The board approved the low quote (state bid price) of $2,434 from Wichita Tractor Company for the purchase of a Bad Boy Outlaw XP lawn mower. The price includes the trade-in of a Dixon DX200 mower. Sealed bids will be taken on the district’s Heckendorn mowers.
Lankford Enterprises, Inc. of Bucyrus will recondition the main gym floor and apply center court graphics at a cost of $9,550.
Hurricane Maintenance and Painting of Wichita received a $14,686 contract to sandblast and paint the concrete overhangs and columns on the original part of the main building.
It was a consensus of the board to seek bids for refurbishing of windows and wall panels on the west side of the vocational building and, as a separate project, the replacement of windows and potential replacement of wall panels on the south side of the main gymnasium.
