Pete Klassen

Services will be at a later date for Arnold Paul “Pete” Klassen, 96, Hillsboro, who passed away Oct. 10, 2024.

He was born June 14, 1928, to Dietrich S. and Anna (Schmidt) Klassen south of Hillsboro and resided in or near Hillsboro his entire life.

His working life spanned from the 1940s into the 2000s and varied from farmer, mechanic, radio/television repairman, electrician, and finally electrical contractor for agricultural and beef industries. Always busy, he eventually transitioned to enjoying hobbies of tinkering, gardening, and antique radio repair, which he continued until the final months of his life.

His expertise at creating or repairing nearly any electrical or electronic device amazed most everyone he came in contact with over the years. It also brought many “projects” to his door and regular requests for service calls in the area and across the region.

He was a respected member of the Hillsboro community and served on the city council for several terms in the 1970s.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Velma (Unruh).

He is survived by sons Gary Klassen and wife Sue and Allen Klassen and wife Pattie; daughter Linda Maudlin; grandchildren Erika Glock and husband Wesley, Randy Klassen, and Lindsay Maudlin; and great-grandchildren, Quinton and Gracelyn Glock.

He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1951 to 1953 and was a member of the American Legion Hillsboro Post 366 for over 71 years. He worked with the American Legion youth programs for over 20 years.

Internment is planned at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at Fort Riley on a date yet to be determined.

A memorial fund has been established with American Legion Post 366, 405 Floral Dr., Hillsboro, KS 67063 or in care of Jost Funeral Home, P.O. Box 266, Hillsboro, KS 67063.
