Pioneer Bluffs to celebrate cowhands
Pioneer Bluffs, a mile north of Matfield Green on K-177, will celebrate National Day of the Cowboy with events from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
Included with be a 1 p.m. talk by Mariah Louderback of Kansas Department of Agriculture about the history and purpose of brands.
A cow pie toss, lasso contest, rope-making, creation of cowboy hats, a virtual trail ride, and other activities for kids along with a branding demonstration are planned for 2 to 5 p.m.
At 2 and 2:30 p.m., poets Scott Wiswell and Ron Wilson will present their work.
The history of cowboy music will be explored by Orin Friesen at 3 p.m.
Jeff Davidson will perform his cowboy music at 4:15 p.m., and Tallgrass Express will present music from the Flint Hills at 5:15 p.m.
A chili feed will conclude the day at 6:15 p.m.
