ACTIVITY REPORTS
Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded.
HILLSBORO
May 10 — Police discovered what was possible drug paraphernalia after stopping a motorist for driving without headlights. No charges were filed, but the case remains under investigation.
A motorist was warned for failing to use a turn signal. Two motorists locked out of their vehicles were referred to locksmiths. A resident complained about unwanted text messages.
May 11 — A game warden was summoned by police and ordered the owner a vehicle parked at the city’s aquatic center to dispose of a dead deer found in the back. The vehicle owner reportedly had planned to leave the road-kill at Tabor College as a prank.
Reports of possible gunshots turned out to be fireworks set off at Tabor College.
Police investigated a second parked vehicle and a complaint of loud music in the 400 block of N. Ash St.
May 12 — Three grams of methamphetamine, two grams of marijuana, six pieces of drug paraphernalia, and a safe were seized as part of a drug arrest in the 300 block of N. Ash St.
A phone was reported lost or stolen in the 200 block of Elm St. The case remains under investigation.
A reportedly suspicious person in the 600 block of E. C St. turned out to be a utility worker.
A parking complaint in the 200 block of E. Grand Ave. was investigated.
Questions about possible harassment on social media and a protection order were answered.
A report of a domestic disturbance in a vehicle outside the city was referred to the sheriff’s department.
Thursday — Two motorists were warned for speeding.
A motel customer asked for a list of storm shelters in case of severe weather.
A resident complained about dogs barking the previous night.
Friday — A complaint about parking of a semi-trailer truck in the city’s industrial complex was investigated.
Saturday — An acquaintance suspected of being under the influence of drugs reportedly threatened a 57-year-old woman at her residence in the 400 block of S. Main St.
A person reported to be slumped over in a car turned out to be texting while waiting for someone to arrive.
Officers investigated a traffic accident in the Dollar General parking lot and a domestic disturbance in the 700 block of S. Washington St.
A stray dog was caught and returned to its owner. A motorist was warned for speeding.
With Hillsboro police busy on another call, a complaint about a fight at Casey’s General Store was handled by sheriff’s deputies.
Sunday — A parked vehicle was investigated.

May 11 — Police warned a driver for speeding. The owner of barking dog in the 200 block of N. Cedar St. put it inside after being contacted by officers. Police checked out a report of a suspicious person in the 500 block of N. Roosevelt St., but took no action.
May 12 — Police cited the owner of two dogs running loose in the 100 block of N. Roosevelt St. Officers warned two drivers for brake lights out. Police investigated checked on a verbal altercation in the 500 block of N. Cedar St.
May 13 — Officers returned a found bicycle to its owner. Police checked on multiple reports of an individual walking down Cedar St. acting strangely, but police took no action. Police warned a resident for trespassing in the 400 block of N. Cedar.
Friday — Police investigated an alarm in the 300 block of S. 3rd St., but everything was OK. A found wallet was turned in to police. Officers checked on a disabled vehicle near 1st and Main Sts., but everything was OK.
Saturday — Police placed a 48-hour tow sticker on a disabled vehicle in the 300 block of N. 2nd St. Police warned several minors driving mopeds against restrictions.
Sunday — Officers told the spouse of an overdue motorist everything was OK. Police warned two drivers for speeding and brake lights.
