ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded.

MARION

May 31 — Officers warned a motorist with a headlight out and re-hung a flag that had fallen.

June 1 — Complaints about parking on private property and about possible vandalism in the 1100 block of Weldon St. were investigated.

June 2 — Officers received a complaint about a barking dog in the 100 block of N. Roosevelt St.

Thursday — Suspicious vehicles in the 200 block of S. 3rd St. proved to be no problem.

Friday — Officers arranged for a Fort Riley bomb squad to remove and destroy possibly explosive World War I munitions on display at Marion Historical Museum.

Separate motorists were warned for not using headlights and for a registration violation. Officers helped free a wheelchair that had become stuck in the 1500 block of E. Main St. Officers took a report about possible threats in the same block but determined no crime had been committed.

Saturday — Officers were called several times to disturbances in the 500 block of S. Freeborn St. but determined no crime was committed. Separate motorists were cited for going 88 and 89 mph in a 65-mph zone. A third motorist was warned for having a taillight out.

Officers repaired a broken toilet at their office and discussed on-street parking of a recreational vehicle in the 400 block of N. Coble St.

Sunday — An erroneous report of a possible burglary in the 100 block of N. Freeborn St. turned into a welfare check; a relative was contacted to care for a hallucinating resident. Possible vandalism was reported in the 700 block of S. Coble St.

Hillsboro

May 31 — Officers responded to a gas meter that was struck in the 400 S. Ash St., disposed of the carcass of a cat hit by a car at C and Adams Sts., and took a dog at large to a veterinarian.

June 1 — Officers investigated a report of a dog at large at Main and 1st Sts. and found that the dog had returned home. They stood by during a civil matter in the 400 block of S. Birch St.

June 2 — Officers investigated a report of a dog at large in the 400 block of S. Washington St. The owner secured the dog. Officers warned a driver for making a J-turn in the 100 block of W. Grand St.

Thursday — Officers checked on the welfare check of a dog in the 200 block of S. Madison St., investigated a report of people walking on a rooftop of a business in the 100 block of S. Main St., and assisted a citizen looking for a dog that had escaped.

Friday — Officers checked on a resident’s welfare in the 500 block of W. Grand Ave., warned about illegal parking in the 300 block of N. Lincoln St., and returned a dog to its owner.

Saturday — Officers warned a trespasser not to return. The trespasser initially was arrested but was released because of a medical issue. Police investigated a complaint of domestic disturbance in the 300 block of N. Jefferson and found the complaint unfounded.

Sunday — Officers investigated a non-injury accident in which a roof overhang was struck by a boat awning at Sonic Drive-in.
