ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

HILLSBORO

Dec. 20 — A parking complaint in the 200 block of S. Main St. and living conditions of a dog kept outside were investigated.

Dec. 21 — A dog owner was notified of a complaint that the dog was running free in the 100 block of S. Cedar St. Drivers were warned for equipment violations on Grand Ave. at Floral St. and in Hillsboro’s industrial park.

Dec. 22 — Police directed traffic after a vehicle became disabled on Main St. Residents complained of barking dogs in the 100 block of S. Cedar St. A parking complaint in the 100 block of S. Date St. was investigated.

Thursday — Police followed up on the complaint about barking dogs, investigated a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 300 block of Kennedy St., and warned a driver about an equipment violation in the 100 block of N. Ash St.

Christmas Eve — Police looked into but did not file a complaint about unauthorized entry to a county fair building. A driver was helped at Ash and C St. An officer also spoke to a resident about landlord-tenant issues.

Christmas — A burglar alarm at Hillsboro Hometown Pharmacy proved to be a false alarm. What was reported to be a power line down turned out to be a cable TV line, which was secured by city workers.

Sunday — Reports of suspicious people in the 400 block of S. Ash St. and the 200 block of N. Main St. were investigated. A deer carcass was removed from a highway.

MARION

Dec. 20 — A disconnected 911 call from the 500 block of N. Cedar St. and a report of a possibly suicidal person were investigated, but no problems were uncovered. Warnings were issued for speeding and equipment violations, and citations were issued for driving with a suspended license, having no proof of insurance, and having no license plate light.

Dec. 21 — Police reported a downed utility line in the 100 block of S. 1st St. A vehicle reported stolen from the 400 block of S. 4th St. was located by the owner. No theft report was taken. Four motorists were stopped. Some were warned for speeding. Others were cited for speeding and possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia. An offense report for the drug charges was not released by police.

Dec. 22 — Police talked to residents about a potential scam and a stray cat.

Thursday — A vehicle that reportedly was parked improperly downtown had been moved before police arrived. Police discovered an open door while checking businesses in the 100 block of N. 1st St.

Christmas Eve — Routine activities only.

Christmas Day — Police discovered an employee working inside a business when checking for open doors in the 1500 block of Sandstone St. No action was taken regarding a reported disturbance in the 400 block of S. Freeborn St. A driver was warned about an equipment violation.

Sunday — No action was taken after a disturbance in the 300 block of E. Santa Fe St. A resident reported seeing someone walking a dog without a leash. A dog running free in the 400 block of N. Freeborn St. was returned to its owner. Two drivers were warned for speeding.
