ACTIVITY REPORTS
Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.
HILLSBORO
Jan. 10 — A driver in the 300 block of S. Adams St. was cited for having a defective windshield and no proof of insurance. A complaint about possible fraud was investigated. Police also investigated a non-injury accident in the 200 block of W. Grand Ave., provided security at Hillsboro Community Hospital, stood by during a civil matter, and notified the city’s water department about a possible leak at Ash St. and Grand Ave.
Jan. 11 — A person who dumped non-recyclable trash at the city’s recycling center was identified and ordered to remove the trash. A dog was reported running free in the 700 block of S. Ash St.
Jan. 12 — Police took a report about a runaway and informed a door-to-door salesman on Washington St. that he needed to apply for a permit. Drivers were cited in the 500 block of E. D St. for having a defective tire and at Orchard and Ash Sts. for having a defective brake light.
Thursday — Police helped deal with a reportedly suicidal family member in the 100 block of S. Main St., cited a resident for allowing a dog to run free in the 300 block of S. Kennedy St., and took a report in the 500 block of S. Main St. about theft of a trailer at the county lake. A driver was cited for having no taillights at US-56 and Jade Rd. People found at the sports complex after hours were ordered to leave.
Friday — A non-injury accident in the 200 block of W. Grand Ave. was investigated. Police answered questions about a civil matter, checked on the welfare of a resident in the 200 block of W. Grand Ave., and helped a motorist at US-56 and Ash St.
Saturday — A theft from an unlocked vehicle in the 500 block of W. Grand Ave. was investigated. Police also stood by during a civil matter.
Sunday — A hit-and-run driver damaged a gas meter in the 100 block of N. Cedar St. A resident complained about a drone flying over the 300 block of S. Kennedy St. A dog running free at Tabor College was taken to Hillsboro Animal Clinic. A driver was warned for speeding in the 300 block of S. Ash St. A resident was helped with a computer issue.
MARION
Jan. 10 — Police investigated suspicious activity at an unspecified location.
Jan. 11 — A radar-equipped speed limit sign was moved to S. 3rd St.
Jan. 12 — A report of threats being made in the 200 block of E. Main St. remains under investigation. A driver was warned about an unspecified issue.
Thursday — Police met with someone regarding a scam. No problem was found with a vehicle reported as suspicious on Garfield St. A driver was warned for an equipment violation.
Friday — Five drivers were warned for speeding. One was cited for driving with a suspended license. A dog reportedly left out in the cold was not located.
Saturday — Police investigated a dispute among roommates over one roommate’s dog attacking another roommate’s cats. No report was taken about a scam that reportedly occurred out of the state. Police spoke with drivers parked in a no-parking zone in the 300 block of N. Cedar St.
Sunday — Two drivers were cited for speeding.
Monday — Three drivers were warned for speeding. Suspicious activity reported in the 300 block of N. Cedar St. was not found.
