ACTIVITY REPORTS
Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.
HILLSBORO
Feb. 28 — Police investigated a reported rape in a parking lot of Hillsboro Middle and High School. A ticket for having a vicious dog was issued after a dog bite was reported in the 200 block of Kennedy St. Adult Protective Services contacted police about an investigation. Police investigated a quarrel in the 200 block of S. Madison St. and contacted the Department of Children and Families. Also investigated were complaints about someone yelling in the 400 block of N. Ash St. and a vehicle going the wrong way while dropping kids off at Hillsboro Elementary.
March 1 — Property stolen in a burglary at AgPower / Carquest Auto Parts was located and returned to its owners after an arrest was made in Harvey County. A loose dog was reported in the 400 block of W. Grand Ave. Police dealt with a complaint of telephone harassment, a complaint involving renters in 400 block of S. Ash St., and a possibly suicidal person in the 200 block of S. Date St.
March 2 — Kimberly Vanderzanden, 21, Elmdale, was arrested on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop in the 100 block of S. Adams St. in which tickets also were issued for marijuana possession and having no brake lights. A driver was cited in the 300 block of W. Grand Ave. for having a suspended license and an illegal tag and for not using a required sobriety ignition lock. A wallet was reported lost. A resident had questions about the city’s noise ordinance.
Thursday — No report.
Friday — A driver was warned for speeding. Police spoke with a landlord about renter problems
Saturday — Another driver was warned for speeding, this time on US-56. Police investigated a report of kids throwing trash in the 700 block of Washington St. A disconnected 911 call was investigated.
Sunday — Drivers were ticketed for driving 46 and 52 mph, respectively, in a 30-mph zone in the 700 block of S. Ash St. Police also spoke to a driver who parked too close to a stop sign at Washington and A Sts.
MARION
Feb. 28 — A motorist was warned for an equipment violation.
March 1 — Illegal dumping was reported at Marion County transfer station. Two drivers were warned for speeding. Police met with residents regarding a scam and a driving complaint and helped someone get out of a car at St. Luke Hospital.
March 2 — Drivers were warned for an equipment violation and for operating a special purpose vehicle without a permit.
Thursday — An unattended death was reported in the 200 block of S. Roosevelt St. A helicopter shining a spotlight near Fairway Dr. was found to be military. Two drivers were warned for an equipment violation. Police helped a kid fix a bicycle.
Friday — Three drivers were warned for speeding. Police talked to a resident complaining of possible harassment and to two juveniles out after curfew. A flag that fell was taken to police headquarters.
Saturday — A false alarm at Tampa State Bank was investigated. A driver was warned for speeding.
Sunday — Three dogs loose in the 100 block of Jefferson St. were taken to Animal Health Center. A non-injury accident in the 300 block of S. 3rd St. remains under investigation. No problems were found when checking a report of suspicious activity in the 1500 block of E. Main St.
