ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

HILLSBORO

July 6 — An open door at a fairgrounds building was secured. Police helped a parent get a child to come home from a friend’s house. An alarm at Bomgaars proved to be a false alarm.

July 7 — A dog running free in the 300 block of N. Washington St. was located and returned to its owner. Another dog in the 800 block of W. Grand Ave. eluded capture. A driver in the 400 block of E. D St. was warned for texting and driving. No problems were found after police checked on a vehicle and its occupants at Casey’s General Store.

July 8 — A hit-and-run accident in the 200 block of W. 3rd St. remains under investigation. Five juveniles at the fairgrounds after curfew were returned to their parents. A resident of the 400 block of W. Grand Ave. complained about possible trespassing.

Thursday — A driver in the 300 block of N. Ash St. was warned not to text and drive. A dog reportedly running free at Ash and D Sts. was not found.

Friday — Police met with water department employees about a meter in the 200 block of S. Madison St. being tampered with. A driver on Indigo Rd. was ticketed for driving with a revoked license. A driver on US-56 east of Holly Rd. was warned about an equipment violation. What had been reported as a possible fight in the 200 block of N. Washington St. turned out to be neighbors talking loudly. A dog running free in the 200 block of N. Ash St. was taken to a veterinarian.

Saturday — A disturbance in the 200 block of S. Madison St. turned out to be a quarrel among residents and remains under investigation. A driver in the 200 block of S. Main St. was warned about making exhibitions of speed. Another driver at US-56 and Orchard Dr. was ticketed for speeding. A noise complaint in the 400 block of N. Ash St. turned out to be a person yelling over a cell phone.

Sunday — A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated domestic battery after he allegedly bit his 34-year-old live-in girlfriend on the nose. An intoxicated and confused person in the 400 block of W. Grand Ave. was checked by ambulance attendants then escorted home. A person with self-inflicted injuries was found during a welfare check in the 200 block of N. Main St. and was taken by ambulance to a hospital. A complaint about noise in the 400 block of N. Ash St. led to a resident turning down loud music. Police also met with a resident in the 100 block of N. Madison St. regarding concerns about the resident’s neighbors.

MARION

June 6 — Arrangements were made to trap a fox that was found under a shed. A possible scam was reported in the 500 block of N. Coble St. A delayed report of a disturbance was received. Two drivers were warned for speeding.

June 7 — A traffic stop for speeding resulted in an arrest on suspicion of drug and alcohol charges. Police failed to find a trespasser reported in the 100 block of N. Cedar St. In what may have been a separate incident, another person was warned not to trespass. No problems were found upon checking a report of a suspicious vehicle in Central Park. Landlord-tenant issues were discussed. A driver was warned for speeding.

June 8 — A resident complained that a fire truck had left ruts in the person’s yard. A driver on Cedar St. near US-56 was cited for having no proof of liability insurance. Another driver was warned for speeding. No problems were found upon checking a report of suspicious activity near Rhino Car Wash.

Thursday — A person reportedly attempting to flag down motorists and get into their vehicles near Main and 3rd Sts. was not found. Police responded to a false alarm in the 600 block of S. 3rd St. They also investigated but took no action on an out-of-control juvenile reported in the 400 block of S. Roosevelt St.

Friday — A vehicle parked improperly near Lawrence and Eisenhower Sts. was moved by its owner. Two drivers were warned for equipment violations.

Saturday — A dog running free in the 400 block of S. Roosevelt St. was captured and its owner ticketed. Three drivers were warned for speeding.

Sunday — Police helped a person whose wheelchair was struck in an alley near 4th and Main Sts. A driver was warned for speeding.
