ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

HILLSBORO

Aug. 1 — An animal cruelty investigation led to a juvenile being told about proper treatment of a family pet. Residents were advised about threatening text messages, credit card issues, child custody issues, and concerns regarding use of illicit substances. Drivers were warned about equipment violations on US-56 and in the 1100 block of E. D St.

Aug. 2 — Aides assigned to residence halls at Tabor College were taught how to recognize illicit substances. A 9-year-old who left home without permission was located. A juvenile reported as a runaway was taken into custody. Police talked to juveniles who reportedly had been unruly in the city park.

A non-injury accident at Ash and D Sts. was investigated. No issues were found when police investigated a report of an upset patron at city hall. An alarm at Emprise Bank was found to have been accidentally activated by workers servicing an automated teller machine.

Perhaps compelled by stereotype, police met with children selling homemade donuts. Drivers were warned for speeding, equipment violations, or both in the 900 block of E. D St., at US-56 and Jade Rd., and at 190th and Limestone Rds.

Aug. 3 — Suspicious people reported at Wilson and C Sts. were investigated. Police stood by during a civil matter in the 200 block of N. Main St. A driver was warned about making an exhibition of speed and another driver was warned for speeding on Orchard Dr.

Thursday — Damage to a bicycle and a non-injury accident on Ash St. east of Orchard Dr. were investigated. Police met with a resident about a civil issue in the 400 block of W. Grand Ave. Drivers were warned for having no headlights in the 100 block of S. Date St. and at D and Lincoln Sts.

Friday — An unruly guest had left Country Haven Inn before police arrived. A fog machine falsely set off a fire alarm at Hillsboro High School. Police were called about a civil issue involving property in the 400 block of W. Grand Ave.

Saturday — Drivers were warned for speeding at US-56 and Jade Rd. and for not signaling a turn at US-56 and Adams St.

Sunday — A report of a fight at Lincoln and C Sts. remains under investigation. Damage to a mailbox near Ash and B Sts. was reported. Welfare of a resident of the 400 block of N. Ash St. was checked.

MARION

Aug. 1 — Drivers were warned for an equipment violation and for speeding.

Aug. 2 — A reportedly intoxicated patron thought to be acting strangely left a truck at D&J Liquor and walked two blocks to near County Inn motel, where at an officer’s request he was checked by medics from Marion ambulance. He was detained until a female family member, brought by a deputy sheriff, could pick up him and the truck. Two drivers were warned for speeding.

Aug. 3 — A driver who was thought to have driven off without paying at a gas station had left a credit or debit card in the pump. A burglar alarm near Santa Fe and 5th Sts. proved to be accidentally activated.

Thursday — A driver received help with a flat tire near US-56 and Cedar St.

Friday — Drivers were warned for speeding and for an equipment violation.

Saturday — A drug arrest was made after a traffic stop in the 100 block of E. Santa Fe St. Assistance was provided to a motorist with a broken down vehicle at Tampa State Bank. Vehicles in the 100 block of Sherman St. and 300 block of Miller St. were tagged to be towing after 48 hours for being inoperable or having expired registration. Police met with drivers parked illegally on S. 3rd St. and helped with an apparently uncooperative ambulance patient in the 1500 block of Victory Lane. Welfare of a resident of the 100 block of N. Roosevelt St. was checked. A child custody issue was discussed.

Sunday — Officers met with individual reference a possible scam. Four drivers were warned for speeding or equipment violations. A holdup alarm accidentally was activated at Carlsons’ Grocery.
