ACTIVITY REPORTS
Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.
HILLSBORO
Aug. 5 — A report of identity theft was investigated.
Aug. 6 — A loose dog was returned to its owner. A parking complaint was received.
Aug. 7 — Police arrested a person on a warrant from Newton police. A report of shoplifting was investigated. Police conferred with Hillsboro Community Hospital representatives about concerns regarding a person in the hospital. Police also talked to a juvenile who reportedly had been looking into vehicles. A dog loose in the 300 block of N. Adams St. was dealt with. No problems were found in checking on the welfare of a resident of the 200 block of S. Lincoln St.
Thursday — Police helped a resident find a trash can relocated by wind. A loose dog was returned to its owner.
Friday — Police met with a person who had been reported to be driving recklessly. They also answered residents’ questions about a civil issue, an order of protection from abuse, and security of a safe deposit box. A driver was warned for speeding in the 100 block of S. Ash St.
Saturday — A driver was warned for having an unauthorized vehicle on a city street in the 200 block of N. Main St. A loose dog was returned to its owner. No problems were found in checking on a disconnected 911 call from the 600 block of S. Lincoln St.
Sunday — A minor accident at US-56 and Ash St. was investigated. Police helped install five child safety seats.
MARION
Aug. 5 — Police spoke to someone in the 900 block of E. Main St. about possible harassment. A report of a stolen license plate in the 400 block of S. Freeborn St. was determined to be a civil matter.
Aug. 6 — Police concluded no crime was observed in responding to a report of a loose dog in the 400 block of S. Roosevelt St. Officers were unable to locate a vehicle reported stolen from Chase County and possibly headed to Marion. A person reported to be missing from the 300 block of S. Roosevelt St. was located soon afterward in Emporia. Unwanted visitors were again warned not to trespass in the 100 block of N. Roosevelt St.
Aug. 7 — Police gave a person from Florida a ride to Canton. An elderly man who appeared to be lost in the 200 block of S. Lincoln St. was determined to have been staying at Country Inn Motel; members of the Marion Ministerial Alliance arranged for him to be taken to Bel Aire. No crimes were found in checking a report of a scam in the 500 block of N. Coble St. Drivers were warned for speeding and for an equipment violation near US-56 and Industrial St.
Thursday — Criminal damage to property was reported in the 600 block of E. Main St., but no report was released because the case is still being investigated. A possible explosion was reported in the 200 block of Walnut St.; no additional details were provided. Police determined that no crimes were committed after checking on a report of a burglary in the 700 block of N. Roosevelt St. and after separating parties involved in a disturbance in the 400 block of S. Roosevelt St. Police killed a dying fox in the 700 block of S. Freeborn St. A loose dog in the 100 block of N. Roosevelt St. was taken to a veterinary clinic. No problems were found in checking on a driver near the US-56/77/K-150 roundabout. Loss of a license plate was reported. Drivers were warned for an equipment violation near US-56 and Industrial St. and for speeding near US-56 and Cedar St.
Friday — A loose dog was reported, but police determined that its owner was attempting to catch it. A driver was warned about an equipment violation near Main and Arbor Sts.
Saturday — A minor accident in the 400 block of Locust St. was investigated. A driver was warned for speeding and ticketed for having no liability insurance near Main and Elm Sts. A driver at Main and Locust Sts. was warned about an equipment violation.
Sunday — An out-of-control juvenile was reported in the 600 block of S. Freeborn St.
