ACTIVITY REPORTS
Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.
HILLSBORO
Feb. 24 — Drivers were warned for speeding on 190th Rd. west of town and for having expired registration at Ampride. Police stood by during a civil matter, talked to a resident about a civil issue, and helped a locked-out driver.
Feb. 25 — A dog owner was ticketed after two dogs once again were loose in the 200 block of N. Jefferson St. A wallet was found and returned to its owner. Drivers were warned for speeding at Washington St. and Grand Ave. and for having illegal registration at Casey’s General Store. A harassment complaint and a complaint about stop sign violations at 3rd and Adams St. were investigated. Police stood by during a civil matter and checked on a resident of the 300 block of S. Ash St.
Feb. 26 — A disconnected 911 call from Hillsboro Middle School was the result of a misdial. A driver was warned about having an improper exhaust system at Ampride.
Thursday — Drivers were ticketed for running a stop sign and having no proof of insurance at Casey’s and for having expired registration and no proof of insurance at Cedar and D Sts. A driver’s license was found and returned to its owner. No problems were found in checking a carbon monoxide alarm in the 300 block of N. Lincoln St. Streetlights were checked for the city’s electric department.
Friday — A delayed report of aggravated battery in the 400 block of S. Main St. remains under investigation. Police explained how to request a protection from abuse order. In checking on a resident of the 300 block of S. Ash St., police found that the person had been taken to a hospital. Drivers were warned for speeding at US-56 and Adams St. and for having a headlight out at US-56 and Ash St.
Saturday — Three disconnected 911 calls from Panda Kitchen were found to have been misdials. Drivers were warned for having a headlight out on US-56 at Jade Rd. and for parking improperly in the 100 block of Elm St. No problems were found in checking on a resident of the 800 block of W. Grand Ave.
Sunday — A wallet found on the Tabor College campus was returned to its owner. Police stood by during a civil matter in the 400 block of W. Grand Ave.
MARION
Feb. 24 — Police talked to residents about a possible scam and about checking on someone’s welfare and investigated a report of a barking dog in the 400 block of N. Lincoln St. Drivers were warned for having a defective headlight near Main and Freeborn Sts. and for speeding near US-56 and Cedar St.
Feb. 25 — A dog loose in the 200 block of Forest St. was not caught. Another animal complaint was lodged near 3rd and Miller Sts. Police checked on a child in the 300 block of Locust St., gave the child a ride to school, and responded to a report of a disturbance in the same block. An unspecified complaint in the 300 block of N. Cedar St. and a complaint of possible harassment in the 200 block of Forest St. were investigated, but no reports were released. Police talked to a person in the 300 block of N. Lincoln St. about a custody dispute.
Feb. 26 — A barking dog was reported in the 300 block of Miller St.
Thursday — A person was bit by a dog in the 200 block of N. Cedar St. Police talked to a person about an illegally parked vehicle in the 100 block of N Cedar St. A driver was warned for displaying an improper license plate near Main and Cedar Sts.
Friday — Four children from a residence in the 300 block of Locust St. were placed in protective custody by police and the Department of Children and Families. A non-injury accident was investigated in the 300 block of N. Lincoln St. A scam was reported in the 800 block of Ash St., but no report was issued. A driver was warned for having a defective headline near US-56 and Timber Rd.
Saturday — Police talked to a person about damage to a vehicle in the 600 block of S. Cedar St.
Sunday — Police talked to a parent of the four children taken into protective custody Friday and advised the parent to contact DCF. Two drivers were warned for speeding near US-56 and Timber Rd. Another driver was warned for having a defective license plate light near US-56 and Industrial St.
